Decorating for Christmas should never feel as though this is a hassle or a burden. However, time and time again, we often feel like it is all about to us and we have to do this a certain way or the entire holiday will be ruined. Therefore, the idea of letting kids help often makes us a bit nervous. After all, we worry that they won’t do this properly or the like. However, to make the holidays pleasant for everyone, let the kids help with the Christmas decor. It will be making lasting memories and you will find that some of the stress is taken off your shoulders!
With this being said, here are a few tips to help with getting your kids more involved with the Christmas decor:
- Let them choose a theme for their room. If they love gingerbread men, let them decorate their room in this. Or even if they love snow, let them put snowflakes everywhere.
- Give them age appropriate tasks. Don’t give them something that is going to make this super hard for them to complete, you don’t want this to feel like a job.
- Let them have ideas about what to do and listen to them.
- Turn on some music and make this a festive occasion. You can easily turn this into a party rather than a stressful decorating extravaganza.
- Don’t get mad if everything doesn’t go as you would have done it. You can choose to let this go, or you could decide to fix it later after the kids have gone to bed.
- Consider making some homemade decor items that will be a great DIY craft that the kids can be involved with, no matter how big or small they are!
Decorating for Christmas should not fall to just one person in a home. It should be shared amongst all the members there to make this a true family Christmas. However, when you involve kids you should be prepared for this to be a bit more hectic in some ways, yet it will be so much funnier in other ways.
Remember, Christmas decor can come in many shapes and sizes, find a style that best fits your home and what type of theme you want. If your kids choose something that is a bit childish, then let them do their room in this….it will make it a Christmas that they won’t forget.
